Has anyone been able to install a BrakeAway cruise control on the TBIRD?
If so, what model did you buy and how about some pics?
Thanks

I did, I will get the numbers for you tomorrow and some pictures. You have to install it in combination with the ISO grips from Kuryakun.

I love my brakeaway, it works really well. I had it on my VTX and transferred it to the TB when I traded up.

Brakeaway advised they don't have a model that fits the Tbird.

You are right they dont. However, the one designed for use with the ISO grip fits and works great. They have to design the mechanism around the grip and how it comes from the manufacturer. So no, they do not have one designed for the TB grip, but like I said above, if you install the Kury ISO grips you can use the Brakeaway because they have one designed for the ISO grip.

He are they part numbers: Kuryakyn grips (#6236) Brakeaway's throttle lock (#5cp02). Go to brakeaway's site (Link for details on the product. Yes it is a bit expensive but it is well worth it. I have had this lock for three years now and love it.

Make sure you order the wide lever kit for it or it will not work correctly.

I will get some pictures up shortly to show the proof is in the pudding.

Did you fit it yourself - if so was it straight forward ?

I did it myself as with most of the wrenching on the ol' girl. The setup is straight forward and the installation instructions provided are very good. The only bitch is to get it adjusted correctly. It will take at least a hour to get it adjusted once it is installed. Be patient and read through the instructions carefully. However, once it is adjusted you don't have to do again unless you take it off. Installing the Kury grips is a piece of cake.

Remember to get the wide lever kit for the Brakeaway.

If you decide to get it and run into an issue I will help you through it.

Will give it a go in winter when I have 'off the bike' time.

Thanks for the update! I had one of these on my America and loved it. I wrote BrakeAway and they said they didn't make on for the TBIRD
I already have ISO grips on the bike. What modifications did you have to do?

Thanks

No mods, put it on and go. Like I said in the above post, the brakeaway is made to fit the style of grip not the bike. They do not make one that fits the stock Triumph TB grip. But, the one they make for the ISO works because it is made to fit the ISO grip. The only caveat is you need to purchase the wide lever kit for it to work with the TBs levers.

What is the WIDE LEVER KIT you talk about. I went to Brakeaway page to order it for the ISO grips (the model you said) but I didn't
see anything about a WIDE LEVER KIT???
Thanks

Section 3.3 in the instructions as quoted, look at the bold and underlined print

(It is very important that the clamp remains open or released during this step)
Pull the brake lever as to engage the front brake and hold it. Raise or lower the Cam height by sliding the End Bracket
Lock Screw(17) up or down in the slot provided. Position the top of the Cam(8) so it just touches the bottom of the
brake lever (Figure 14), stop as soon as the Cam(8) touches and hold it there. Release the brake lever and slightly
snug the End Bracket Lock Screw(17) just enough to hold this position. (Do Not tighten until step 3.5)
NOTE: If the top of the Cam(8) is too low to achieve the position described above or If your Contoured brake lever
does not clear the Clamp at this position, you will need to add the Cam Riser and longer Cam Screw(1) supplied in
your kit. The cam riser is a small black oval shaped plastic piece 3/32" thick that will snap on to the bottom of the
Cam(8) to raise it. You will find the Cam Riser and longer screw in your wrench bag supplied in your kit. To add the
Riser; remove the brake pivot nut, loosen the Swivel Lock Screw(15) and move the Swivel to access and remove the
Cam Screw(10) and the Cam(8). Snap the slotted side of the cam riser on to the bottom of the Cam(8) and reinstall it
on the Cam Support(9) using the longer Cam Screw(10) supplied. Re-adjust the Cam(8) position as described in
section 2.2. and the Cam(8) height as described in this section 3.3)
IMPORTANT! Use only the cam riser to raise the cam. Using other objects such as washers to raise the cam
could allow the cam to work loose resulting in brake release failure. If the supplied riser is not thick enough for
the Cam(8) to make proper contact with the brake lever, contact BrakeAway Products for details on P/N 5C18
