The very first time I didn't have the tool or anything close I warmed it up with a hairdryer and it came loose. Since then I've used the thread of an oversized tow ball, not quite the right thread but with a washer against the crank it works. I did a mates recently and neither would work so borrowed the right tool and even with that it was bloody hard to get off.   Experience is something you get just after you needed it 1600,Foran Razorbacks, Meerkat bypass, Dyno tune, real headlight,plenty of chrome,switchblade pegs, Nitron R3 shocks & Ikon progressive fork springs etc. Scorpion Western Low handlebars. Tried heat, tried rubber mallet how much force do you need. Ppl. used to warn me about cracking the housing, but until now I have done it more than 10 times, no issues. The tool is an SK40 collet tool shank ER40, just has the right thread.
