Indian Motorcycles Has Been Sold, Polaris No Longer Owner In Shocking Announcement.

Kind of a shame, hopefully Indian doesn't join Victory. I wonder what happened??

Had a client in the shop last week lamenting the demise of the motorcycle market. He said sales have tanked because those coming of age have no interest in such things, being tech-focused (and risk-averse). Sounds about right, soy boys don't ride. Hadn't thought about it, but looks like he was correct.

The ones I've met are strikingly clueless to the point of helplessness. Had one ask, "is your electricity different than what's down at the park" when I plugged in his notebook and it began charging. Uh, yeah, mine is ON. He had no idea that an outlet could be turned off, they always supply some sort of magic juice. He was - dare I say - shocked. Mechanical things must be a total mystery.

Yep, they all have their head up their ass, no interest at all. I'm just happy as hell that I'm not growing up now.

I think there needs to be another riveting motorcycle series like Orange County Choppers, something to engage Generation Z.
When OCC had marathons during the holidays, I was a couch potato. Mom accused me of watching too much of that crap.

Polaris have sold the major share not all shares. I'm positive about the move, nothing like new blood to introduce new ideas and enthusiasm. Polaris have done a great job with Indian, HD have had to up their game to stay ahead so that's a good thing. Totally different scenario to the victory brand. 900 employees are moving over to the new company so I don't see why a company would go to all that trouble and expense then shut down the brand. Let's see where it goes before declaring doom and gloom.

I read Carolwood LP (new owner) plans to support the R&D of electric and connected motorcycle technologies. This could be an exciting transition from gas to electric-powered Indians! Lee, if your engine blows, swap it for a dynamo and you're good to go.

Public interest in new ownership seems mixed or cautiously optimistic and changeover may negatively affect Indian sales. It's also interesting that Carolwood's new CEO, Kennedy, spent 26 years at HD. This could lead to interesting results or just cloning.

...also consider no oil change, no valve adjustment, no petro lines, no smog, etc. The only negative is no engine rumble but I'm sure engineers are working on it! Eventually you can program any engine sound imaginable!

The Rivian pickup truck has a curb weight of 6,949 pounds - that's nearly 3.5 TONS, mostly battery.
Owner said he gets about 200 miles per charge.

An electric Harley would have to weigh over 2,000 pounds - or have a range measured in city blocks.
