My son has been building choppers already for several years. This happened to his
latest project some 200 miles from home riding to a chopper meeting and 40 miles to go.

He made his road side repair using duck tape and wire and some wood and did the
remaining 40 miles. I??m just waiting for his report tomorrow how he
will manage the ride home.

Duck tape got me out of trouble a few time.

The "old boys" used to say, if it falls off, duck tape it back on.

If it's supposed to move spray it with WD 40.

Maybe a few of these would make a firmer repair.

Thats what I was thinking too, and it's strange there is such a clean break.

Glad he is OK and best of luck for the ride home.

When the tube was drawn down to a taper, I wonder if it was held at that point, thus creating a stress point, leading to metal fatigue.

Looks like the bottom cone has been butt welded to the upper tube, then linished to make it nice and smooth but was left with no weld penetration, and thats where it has snapped.
Hope the other side was not the same.

Glad he managed to keep the rubber side down.

I'm curious who made that springer. I was looking for some for my 73 Bonnie project. Lots of Chinese knock offs out there. they may be cheap but I wouldn't them with my life.

No

I wanted to know so i could specifically avoid them. Ultimately I just need to stop trying to find a good deal and just spend whatever it takes to get the quality I want. Or at the very least one that wont snap.

Heard it was made in Poland and sold by W&W. In the neighborhood 3 broken the same way in 2 years. The springers are only
2-3 years old. Thats what you get when buying cheap.

Thanks for the info and fro sharing. You definitely reinforced not to buy a cheap springer.

I guess I need to keep saving for the Zero Engineering springer I want.
