There we go... a little tbird/morini owners group. We could make sure between all of us that we've got the spares issue covered and have a nice little knowledge bank between us all. I've just about come to decide the scrambler is the perfect compliment to the bird.

Shame the dollar is in such bad shape next to the pound. That £6999 would be just over $11k for me. But new and a good excuse for a trip to England....

Hmm, can I get the name of that dealer then? That puts it at a good price since I can bypass VAT (don't hate) I'll contact them and see what they've got.

We'll have to work on that gang name.... first step, get the bikes!

So, Moto Morini has a new owner, Eagle Bikes. This Italian company bought scooter and motorbike production facilities from Morini, but not the real estate where the factories are standing upon.... Eagle Bikes is an investment duo of Sandro Capotosti and Ruggermassimo Jannuzzelli. Capotosti is former head of Milan's investment bank Banca Profilo and Jannuzzelli was CEO of publishing house Camuzzi.

Not the most promising outlook for Moini IMHO, but future will show...

You will have to contact Rob (zolti) to see if he has the details. Every time I tried to view the classified add for details I got an error box pop up. If you get a reply from Rob you may need a Geordy/American translation book .

I agree, but in my opinion, at least it's a lot better than dying a silent death.

Thanks for the news.

Agreed.

I did a bit further reading and there is a good chance that this is actually all good news. Berlusconi backed out of an earlier deal because he couldn't get concessions from the unions. Morini was putting out top end bikes that people wanted. It was profit they weren't seeing, because of the high manufacturing costs in Italy. What 'Eagle Bike' (a company formed only to make this acquisition ) did was manage to get out from under the weight of those labor costs.

Two of the major issues to work with on restarting a failing/ed company ... 'Can I improve the product?" and/or "Can I increase profits / lower costs?" The answer to the first question really is a big 'NO', sure you can expand a bit more, get a second power plant and have a broader line, but as a small company that single engine in numerous platforms is what you want, but the bikes that Morini were building were some of the best bikes in their areas. So, why didn't they make it? Operating costs and probably not enough reserves to grow the brand. Well, Eagle bikes have made a big move to sort the operating costs. It's to be seen if they have the capital to make it all happen though.

I hope so, The Coraso, Scrambler, Granpasso and it's uber-Hooligan still-born cousin the Granferro are bikes that deserve to be saved.

Since the operating costs are more or less a known factor, I would probably be inclined to agree with the latter.

When I went to the Morini dealer (he didn't have the scrambler at the time so I took a long test ride on the GranPasso hot rod), the feeling I had afterwards was "let's see how they get on before I commit myself".
I suspect a lot of people felt the same way which would mean a slow cash-flow, thus coming to your point on requiring strong reserves.

As with any new business, unless it is lucky enough to have a bout of "windfall" sales and/or a product that sells like "hotcakes" on a sustainable level, it's gonna need enough reserves to sustain it through the initial period, whichever that may be.
I also think the current crisis was a contributing factor to the above-mentioned "slow cash-flow" aspect.

If this new outfit is able to sustain the brand long enough with the current model line-up (since it is already established), then it will receive it's much needed visibility (to the buying market) and reputation (for reliability).
It should then become a significant (albeit small) player.
And this would make me happy as I have a soft spot for historical brands.

The name of this outfit seems to ring a bell.
Just out of curiosity, weren't these guys the distributors for Laverda many moons ago?
I seem to recall they were very Italian motorcycle oriented.

could well be,
I did a search for a the scrambler after seeing thatch's post and it was a very good deal. until then never heard of them, other side of the country to me. the two nearest dealers to me are glasgow or bury.

bury if mats game ;)

although its unlikely to see that price again for anew one.

i did have a look at the tornado (benelli) as they had a great deal last month about 4 grand off. a sales lad in the newcastle victory shop has one and his dealer in leeds had reduced one to a silly price. ( the bike looks stunnung) but he has to get it transported there and back before servicing costs about an extra £100. and they do have specific problems that he feels needs to get a dealer to service it. popped the bubble lol also i wouldnt be able to control the urge to open it up.
with coppers up here apparently with speed cameras that can clock you a km away and some handing off bridges with radar what chance to enjoy the bike.
lad i ride often with has garaged his ktm 990 and bought the single cylinder beemer so he now has to work at the bike to get it upto speed. he found the ktm was only happy over 88mph and wouldnt get into top under 65 lol
