And another welcome. That's quite a piece of work, and done beautifully.
Yes, the Wing seat is excellent but, I test rode a Victory at Biketoberfest and it has to be the most comfortable bike seat I was ever on.
Too bad you got the black TBird though. It's the slowest one you know?

They are photos when reforming the new seat.
When the new seat was setting,my friend added some parts.
The left side parts is for fixing the seat , and the right one is for preventing the rain.
Using this parts, the new seat can be fixed ,completely.
This is my TBird.
There is nobody who rides on Thunderbird in my neighborhood ,so I'm sad.
But, I 'm very happy to visit this forum.

But the flap has me a bit confused. It would seem to be a flap over the air intake, which would seem to restrict airflow quite a bit. Is it lifted up at an angle to accept air in still ? Did you notice any loss of power with the new seat fitted?

I have to do something about my "long haul" seat, too. Gets extremely uncomfortable after a 2-300 mile stretch, especially when handlebars don't allow you to change position much.
Good question about airflow and intake..... doesn't look like the stock seat pan.....

must be like sitting in your favourite wraparound chair, looks very comfy
got to double up with "thatch" on concerns over strangulating the air intake.
( your "right hand" flap that you put there so stop the rain getting in)
some here have opened that up more to let the engine breathe better,
try it without the flap
ps you might be sad but i bet your grinning every time you ride it

I too had the first Thunderbird in the small town I live in, but now there are at least two more. It probably won't be long before your neighbours start to follow your example, especially when they see the great things you have done with yours.

There is a little gap between the gas tank and the new seat top.
And to make matters worse, the position of new seat tongue is backward from the original .
Under the new seat tongue,there is the air filter.
In the original seat,there is a good idea to prevent from dropping water to the air filter.
But there is none in the new seat. So,he decided to make the flap.
The structure of the flap is as follows:
The circular parts were made of Resin,which is the material when making dentures.
Resin is immediately mass,and it is very hard.
My friend is Dental technician,not a bike shop owner.So ,he is good at detailed work.
Always,he has nice ideas and I respect him.
Perhaps,it is right to restrict air flow and lose of power by using this flap.
But ,fortunately,when coming home from his house, I could ride the same as before.

After I saw this photo, I felt that the seat was too big.
I like Tbird very much,and Goldwing too. So, I dare to do.

I am glad that you are interested in the instrument panel.
Last summer, I visited a Triumph's dealer. When I saw this Thunderbird ,demonstration bike.
About thirty years ago, I felt a strong attraction to vertical twin engine.
But at that time, multi-cylinder engine was popular with riders in Japan, for example HONDA CB750,CBX(excellent!), KAWASAKI Z750,Z900 and so on.
Finally, I also decided to ride on GL1100.
When I met this Thunderbird, I remembered XS650SP, suddenly!
From that time, I have been loving Thunderbird.
Photo in this spring:
I added a instrument one by one , using handle clamper.
But it was untidy,not good!
So,I begged my friend to create a special parts.
Please wait for a few days, I will add another photos.

It isn't your imagination,your pointing out is correct.
When I rode my Tbird , I recognized that the positions of step and handlebar-end were too far !
My legs and arms were always extended, so I couldn't ride easily at all.
I restrained myself for some months,but......
I consulted to a certain dealer, and I could solve the problem.
To modify the position of step, I ordered special parts, which were made by a certain dealer in Japan.

Using this special parts ( called "mid control kit" ), the position was modified to 5cm back and 1cm up from the original.
From at that time, I felt better . And at this time, I begged my friend to modify the new seat forward ,a little.
And now, this is the best position.
On the other hand, to modify the position of handlebar-end, I begged to a dealer to change to the new handlebar,fitted for Rocket3.
(Requires Extended Cable Kit A9638069 (Non ABS) or A9638072 (ABS) )

Oh, I make a mistake!
But, my special detector is searching for a stewardess ( but not a policeman ).
I'll do my best with a stewardess, and my Tbird runs faster than JAL!
In fact, JAL has been going downhill, so we Japanese prefer ANA to JAL.

His name is Mr.Kawakami, and he is twenty years older than me.
But, he is full of vigor.
He loves sidecars, especially HARLEY-DAVIDSON and Goldwing.
He is clever and he always grants my request with ease.

The elevator in front of his house was made by only himself.
The sidecar is about 600~700 kg in weight, it is necessary to lift up the sidecar upstairs.
In this room, he spends long times for setting up and reforming sidecars.
Twice or three times a month, he will participate in the parade.
A journal of the motorcyclist : sorry for Japanese.
He is a dental technician,not a mechanic.
He is my best friend!
Next year, I will beg him a new job, perhaps....

well after noticing the way your throw your blessed bird about cans would be the only option...
a barrel is just a bit ott and would you really want the flotsom intermingling, try hobgoblin in cans its an acceptabe compromise when travelling in foreign climes
