| | Posted : 08 Aug 2014 - 07:45 Post title : mustang seats | | | Gidday to all you cruisers out there. I am a proud owner of a thunderbird storm 2014 but travelling the roads you soon realise that the stock seat is not comfortable and the missus sure aint happy with with the pillion seat.We are planning to ride around the North Island of New Zealand but with a little more comfort. All research would suggest a mustang vintage seat (solo rider and solo pillion).Living down under we are a little isolated and I am trying to work out if it is cheaper to buy from the Uniterd States or Australia.Current seats only state models up to 2013,but I am sure these will fit my storm. Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated Regards Whiskers2

I only ride solo so I have the single and it is easily the best money I have spent on my bird and I can tell you I have spent plenty on the bloody thing. I bought mine via Cruiser Customising in the US (and got fucked around by Mustang getting it to CC) however Eddy Hofstrand of Fast Eddy Sports also sells em and we all support FES as He looks after us all very well and He will not dud you on freight and from my experience with FES it is about 10days from him to me. and You could also try Gary Hunter at Triumph Performance Parts outside Shepperton in Victoria as He peddles them also.
If you are not is a rush get some prices from the lot.My guess FES or Gary Hunter would be Ya best bet. But you wont be sorry as they are a tremendous seat.

1600 and Storm seats are all the same. The new Commander and LT seats are different and won't fit your Storm.

Some pictures of the different seats on the bike might help but the Mustang lets me go more miles before I need to stop. I can run a full tank without stopping try that on the stock seat then do the same on the Mustang. Wow much better.

I had a Mustang on my previous bike, and loved it. However, the Mustang on the TBird definitely moves you closer to the tank, which is why this time around I'm not sure I'm keeping mine or not. The gap between me and the tank shrunk from about four or five inches w/ the longhaul OEM to less than two w/ the Mustang. At 6'1", that's room I didn't want to lose. I haven't yet figured out, though, if the compacted stance makes me feel more "of one" with the bike or just crowded.
It's been a difficult summer to find any riding time, though, so though I'm not making any decision yet until I have an opportunity to put at least a few miles on it.

If it's any help try reversing your risers (if you have stock bars) , it puts the bars further away by about two inches. There is a pic in my album .

Not a bad idea, but it's more the way my legs are folded and feet sit than issues with arm reach. If I can't make it work, I'll just go back to the longhaul. Probably won't be hard to sell the Mustang, I wouldn't think. I'd still like to make the Mustang work, though...that L-shaped pocket is a heckuva lot more comfortable than the gradual rise of the OEM seat.
I just wish it didn't move me so damn much forward. That was a bit of a surprise...I hadn't read that in any reviews of it here or at the other forum. Oh well, live and learn. Who knows, maybe I'll grow to like it. Maybe.

RC I had the same feeling initially and thought Shit I am sitting on top of the tank,I am 185cm or just under 6ft and I am not a Ballerina by any means. but the initial position concers seems to have disappeared , whether the seat "Broke in a little and allowed me back a bit " I also have Rivco 2"Pullbacks Risers. and a Protac backrest and I had to spend quite a bit of time modifying the mounts to get it back a bit and now I am "Just Overhjoyed " with the whole set up.
Persevere with it I am sure you will be satisfied.

I bought the seat a couple months ago, so no idea if his comment was before or after...but either way I missed it.

Btw, I don't have a stock seat...it has been rebuilt with comfort padding, cover but low profile look! And replacing the Triumph seat air induction system for an aftermarket pan is questionable, imo.
