OK!! Then try a different make of tire and experiment with pressures while monitoring wear.Just one or two pounds can make a big difference in wear.I just didn't pick these pressures or tires out of the air,ya know.Everything was trial and error until I GOT IT RIGHT. Dave!!!!

Personally, I don't think a few pounds makes much difference in wear. I'm sure there's some, but likely not much in my opinion. However, lower tire pressure does make a big difference in cupping. Depending on the tire, low pressure can significantly increase cupping.

I was told a few years ago by a current racer (non professional) that slightly lowering pressures increases grip.

I ran 28 front and rear on my track bike, slicks or treads.... The pro racers would be running around 20 front and rear

Remember that tyre temp is always quoted when the tyre is cold, racers put a lot of physical pressure on their tyres so they run quite hot, which increases pressure, so dropping the cold pressure by 2-4lbs will be equalised by the high temp. Professionals will take their tyre temp up to over 100 degrees.

Mick . . . Keep the rubber side down!!

I have read the same, but I think it is more than slightly - I believe racers use significant lower pressures to increase the contact patch.

This is of course what Dave is after - more contact = longer tread life. I just think one needs to lose more than a few pounds to accomplish this.

But lower pressure is bad for performance and handling. Tried both and a high pressure is better for me.

Interesting reading here Link particularly the second last question at the page bottom. It appears according to this that race tyres don't run very low pressures, although there are many variables. I realise that of course that these are very different compounds to what we use.

If you click on the tab for tyre pressure recommendations it gives a PDF table.

Actually No..... More contact = more grip = less tread life...
I know Race tyres are a different compound, but they don't last more than a couple of races. They are designed for maximum contact and grip.

I've used road tyres on the track and chewed the crap out if them very quickly.
Longevity is mostly impacted by your right wrist. Pressures and tyre brands play a part but the way you ride has the biggest impact
